An update on Philly bike share stats and a busy Memorial Weekend Saturday

Bikes and Docks available across RideIndego Stations 215pm Sat 23rd May 2015

Here’s a quick update on the stats for bike share usage in Philadelphia as the system gets more and more popular.

As mentioned in my previous post I’m collecting from the open data API every five minutes using Logstash and then getting interesting snapshots and time-series graphs from Kibana.

Bike availability over time clearly shows how popular the bike share is for commuters. For example, this graph shows Queen Village / South-East Philly Stations Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 13th – 15th May:-

Bike availability Wed/Thu/Fri

Looking at today (Saturday 3pm of Memorial Day weekend) a lot of bikes are out on the streets. Here is a graph showing docks available (blue) and bikes available (green) by stations, ordered by bikes available. 12 stations are empty; 9 stations are close to empty.

Here are various areas of the city showing bike availability so far today.

Perhaps something to build on or inspire further work at next week’s Apps for Philly Transporation Hackathon. The event will be hosted at 30th Street Station (kickoff) and SEPTA’s HQ during the weekend. Learn more about the event here in Lloyd’s blog post
